Description
Ephedra, also known as Mu-Huang, is a plant with strongly stimulating effects. It is one of the oldest medicinal herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine to aid ailments such as asthma, hay fever, and the common cold. In the west, the herb gained popularity as a performance enhancer and weight loss supplement. The plant’s primary active ingredient, ephedrine, stimulates the central nervous system, contributes to concentration and focus, accelerates the heart rate, raises blood pressure, and suppresses appetite. Ephedra sinica is easy to grow from seed. The broom-like shrub can grow up to 60cm high. Plant the seeds indoors in Autumn, at a temperature of about 20°C. Ephedra flourishes in loose cactus soil, with plenty of sunlight and very little water.
