Cold and flu season right around the corner? Don’t want to deal with the sniffles, sneezing and achy body? Bolster your immune system with superfood mushroom Chaga.

What is Chaga?
Inonotus obliquus is a parasitic mushroom that grows on damaged, sick birch trees across northern Eurasia. Chaga has an irregular shape; its surface is black and rough resembling a lump of burnt charcoal. Healers and shaman have used Chaga since the 16th century to treat tumours, infections, and various ailments. Chaga was also used in shamanic rituals.

Modern science has confirmed that Chaga-mycelium contains high levels of antioxidants, betulin, plant-based sterols, and polysaccharides. Make this powerhouse blend of active components a staple in your wellness routine. Use Inonotus obliquus in times of stress, during cold and flu season, or whenever your immune system needs extra support.

Mycelium vs fruiting body
In the medicinal mushroom world, there’s a lot of back and forth in the debate on the efficacy of mycelium versus fruit bodies. When it comes to the Chaga mushroom, the source of the powerful active components is not the fruiting body but rather the hardened mass of mycelium known as sclerotia.

Ingredients
Our Chaga is pure, dried mycelium harvested in winter in Siberia. 100% raw, dried Chaga.

Dosage
The first time you use Chaga start with 0.5 grams. Build up to the desired strength over the course of a few days. A typical dosage is 1 – 1.5 grams. A strong dosage 2 -2.5 grams. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose of 3.5 grams.

Use
A hot water extraction is the easiest and best way to consume Chaga. Break off the required amount and grind the chunk down using a mortar and pestle or coffee grinder. Pour one and a half mugs of water into a pan, heat the water to 80 ºC. Do not let the water boil. Add ground Chaga to the water and simmer for 15 minutes. If you’re using chunks of Chaga instead of finely ground Chaga, simmer for a longer period of time. Strain the liquid using a tea towel or mesh strainer.

Chaga tea has an intense earthy flavour. Depending on your taste buds, add sugar, honey, maple syrup or other herbs. Tip: Drink a cup of Chaga tea in the morning instead of your usual cup of coffee, start your day off with a supermushroom boost! Make a large batch of Chaga tea in one go, allow to cool, strain and store in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.

Raw Chaga should not be chewed and consumed as is. The composition of the Chaga mushroom’s cell walls is almost impossible for us humans to digest. Your body won’t be able to optimally absorb Chaga's active components. Brewing Chaga tea helps break down the cell walls, releasing all the supermushroom goodness. Chaga tea is the tried and true way to go.
