The best way to germinate cannabis seeds
We store cannabis seeds cool and dry in the refrigerator. Before you start germinating, allow the seeds, in their original packaging, to acclimate to room temperature for 48 hours. Germination requires moisture and temperatures between 22 and 25 degrees Celsius. There are many ways to germinate seeds, but the highest germination rates are achieved by using unbleached coffee filters placed in a plastic zip bag and kept in a dry, dark and warm spot (e.g. closet). Using this method seeds usually germinate within 3 to 7 days. Be patient; sometimes it can take more than 3 weeks.
  • Take two unbleached coffee filters and wet them. (Mineral water with a pH between 6 and 7 is better than tap water). Place the filters beside each other on a dinner plate.
  • Place the seeds on one of the wet coffee filters, with space between the seeds, and the pointy end of each seed (this is the direction out of which the root will grow) pointing down.
  • Lay the other wet coffee filter on top, and put this is a plastic zip bag. Close the zip lock bag and use a piece of tape to hang it up on the inside of a dark closet or cabinet.
  • Check often if roots are growing. Take the zip lock bag and hold it up against the light.
  • Check moisture daily. If a root is visible, the seed is ready to be planted. If not hang the zip lock bag back up in the closet.
  • When it’s time to plant the seeds, make a small hole in the middle of the soil (±0.5 cm deep).
  • Take the brown filters out of the plastic zip bag. Use a teaspoon to pick up the seedlings one by one and plant them in the soil. The root must be placed into the soil with the top of the seedling still visible.
  • Make sure that the soil is damp and that there’s enough sunlight. Seedlings prefer high humidity levels between 65%-70% and a temperature between 15°C - 22°C.
  • Seedlings are fragile. Place them somewhere sheltered from the wind. In the first week do not expose the seedlings to too much bright, direct sunlight.
