Sceletium tortuosum, commonly known as kanna or kauwgoed which in Dutch means “something to chew”, is a succulent indigenous to South Africa. Mesembrine, one of the main alkaloids present in kanna, increases the activity of the serotonin already available in the brain. Kanna is a fast-acting, mood-lifter.
