Description
Uzara, also known as bitter root or milk bush, belongs to a group of oneirogens called dream herbs. Dream herbs contribute to experiencing lucid (vivid) dreams. For thousands of years, the indigenous peoples of Africa and Central America have used dream herbs to enhance dreams and explore the subconscious. This “trip” can lead to valuable insights into fears, hopes, desires, and the future. Some dream herbs can help clarify dreams while others prolong dreams. Uzara is a rather remarkable looking plant with wide hairy leaves. The herb is commonly found growing along the edges of motorways throughout South Africa. Though not officially considered one of the Ubaluwa herbs, Uzara is a common ingredient in dream herb blends. In Africa, Uzara is a folk remedy used by the Xhosa and various other tribes to aid wounds, headaches, menstrual cramps, fever and health issues arising from problems with the digestive system. The Zulu used the finely ground root as a snuff for a sedating effect.
