What is an air pot?
An Air Pot is a plastic grow pot with cone-shaped, perforated walls that air-prune the roots. The Air-Pot range is made of recycled HDPE, De Sjamaan sells sizes from 1 to 38 litres.
How do air pots work and what is air pruning?
Roots grow toward the holes in the wall, reach the air, and dry at the tip. The plant responds with new side roots; branch by branch it builds a thick root mass. The holes also let extra oxygen into the soil; roots need that oxygen to stay healthy.
Do Air Pots increase yield?
Air pruning builds more root tips, every tip takes up more water and food, and the plant converts that supply into growth. A stronger, better-fed plant yields a weightier, more flavourful harvest.
How often do you water air pots?
More often than in a regular pot. The open walls dry the medium faster and the dense root mass takes up water fast. Check the pot daily; water thoroughly once the medium is dry. If the soil shrinks from the wall, give a small amount of water and let it soak for half an hour.
Air pots vs fabric pots - which is better?
Both air-prune roots and both beat regular pots on root health. Air-Pots are hard plastic: sturdier, reusable for years, and better suited to strong, bright sunlight. Fabric pots are softer and cheaper but wear out after a few grows.
Are air pots better than normal pots?
