Start by asking yourself how many people you want to share with and where you usually set up. A tall glass hookah has a longer stem that cools the smoke and makes it less harsh. Aladin shishas are really easy to take apart. Rinse the stem and glass base under water after each use. De Sjamaan sells non-toxic bio shisha cleaner and shisha cleaning brushes to push through the stem and hose connection. The hoses themselves are made from silicone. Silicone shisha hoses don’t absorb flavour and can be washed. Dry every part fully before you put the shisha pipe back together.

Fill the base with water until the bottom of the stem is underwater, you want smoke to pass through the stem directly into the water. Pack the bowl loosely so air can move through and around your shisha tobacco, molasses or steam stones. Fit the foil (with air holes about toothpick thickness), a screen that attaches to the bowl, or another heat management tool, then place lit charcoal on top. Once everything is in place, take slow and steady inhales from the shisha hose.

You’ll need a bowl, hose, charcoal, and tongs. A premium shisha like Aladin shisha already includes all of these basics. Use foil or a bowl with screen. If you’re using natural charcoal like coconut charcoal De Sjamaan recommends purchasing a charcoal heater since lighting the charcoal takes at least 7 to 10 minutes of heating on both sides. Natural coconut charcoal like Tom Coco is the best choice. Natural charcoal burns longer, up to 2 hours, gives off no flavour, and barely ashes. Quick light charcoal lights up faster because it contains an accelerant, something you can definitely taste.

If you want a travel shisha then the short answer is yes. Set up a mini shisha anywhere within minutes. You give up some function for portability though. You lose the long stem that cools and filters harsh smoke but gain a shisha pipe you can take with you anywhere.
